Registered Nurse (ER) - Night Shift

Location: Renton, Washington (just outside Seattle)
Contract Length: 15 weeks


Job Overview

  • Emergency Room Registered Nurses needed for night shifts.
  • Must be willing to work any required shift with heavy nights; no switching between day and night shifts within the same week.
  • 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
  • Serves a diverse patient population with approximately 250 patients per day.

Unit Details

  • 55 total beds + 8-12 swing beds, 4 trauma bays.
  • Four-zone department staffed with nurses, MST (ED techs and patient sitters), resource nurses, charge nurse, patient flow coordinator, triage nurses, and protocol nurses.
  • Separate triage area in the lobby; travelers may do triage only after additional orientation and competency testing (most travelers do not do triage).
  • Separate psych/seclusion rooms with 24/7 monitor tech coverage.
  • In-house security present in the ED.
  • Fast track (accelerated care) area with 5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio; main ED ratio 4:1; critical care ratio 2:1.
  • RNs manage their own ER holds; additional support from other units available for long holds.
  • RNs transport critical patients within the ED.

Patient Types & Common Diagnoses

  • STEMI, Stroke, DKA, Sepsis, Trauma, Respiratory diseases, Behavioral health.

Required Certifications & Skills

  • ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NIHSS certifications required (both PALS and ENPC mandatory).
  • 2+ years of ER nursing experience required, including at least 1 year in a trauma center.
  • Prior travel experience required; no first-time travelers accepted.
  • Must have 100% Epic EMR experience—no exceptions.
  • Comfortable providing culturally competent care to a highly diverse patient population.
  • Must align with mission to care for the community like family.

Clinical Responsibilities & Equipment

  • RNs draw ABGs and set up small dose breathing treatments; RTs manage respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow).
  • RNs and MSTs perform ECGs.
  • MST and RNs monitor telemetry strips.
  • Nurses and MSTs perform phlebotomy.

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
  • Holiday work required.
  • No call or standby requirements.
  • No floating requirements.
  • Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs for nursing staff.
  • Orientation: First day with ED leadership and badging, followed by 2-3 shifts of bedside orientation.

Important Notes

  • Candidates with any license issues related to diverting medications or endangerment will be immediately disqualified and contracts canceled.
  • May request up to 10 days off without hospital approval for clinical prescreening; additional time or holiday requests require hospital approval.
