Job Description

Seeking an experienced ICU RN to work in a 6-bed CCU unit that may flex to accommodate MedSurg Pediatric patients as needed. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses such as CHF, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, and DKA. Procedures occasionally include central line insertions, thoracentesis, and paracentesis (performed by providers).

Work Environment & Patient Care

• Nurse-to-patient ratio goal: 1:2 (may be up to 1:4 depending on acuity and MedSurg Peds needs)
• Charge Nurse oversees both MedSurg Peds and CCU sides; typically does not have a patient caseload but may take assignments as needed
• No in-house hospitalist or intensivist; patients are managed by their private physicians
• Respiratory Therapist coverage is limited (weekly during day shifts); CCU nurses manage respiratory treatments nights and weekends
• Telemetry monitoring done by CCU nurses; no dedicated monitor techs
• Equipment includes CPAP, Bipap (V60), Vapotherm, Hamilton ventilator

Schedule & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts starting at 7 AM
• Two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break per shift
• 6-week cyclic schedules with attempts to accommodate scheduling needs (no guaranteed block scheduling)
• Weekend requirement: Every third weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun), flexible to Sat/Sun/Mon if needed
• Holiday requirement: At least one major and one minor holiday depending on season and contract duration

Required Qualifications

• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Iowa RN License (IA RN License)
  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
• Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of CCU experience
  • Prior travel experience required (at least 1 year)
• Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, insulin, norepinephrine)
• Ability to float to MedSurg Peds unit; cross-training opportunities available for Behavioral Health and ER if interested

Preferred Certifications

• TNCC
• NIHSS
• PALS (willingness to obtain PALS certification is acceptable)

Additional Information

• Orientation: Two 12-hour shifts specific to the unit
• Nurse aides available with goal ratios of 1:6 (day) and 1:8 (night), varying by census and staffing

• Medication drawer keys are controlled and must be returned at shift end to avoid replacement fees
• Scrub colors allowed: Grey, Black, Pink, or White in any combination
