Travel RN Opportunity – CVU 5E (Cardiac/Vascular Unit)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Combined unit: Cardio/General ICU, PCU, MedSurg
- 18 beds
- Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:4 (general), 1:3 (post-surgical first 24 hours)
- Patient types: Intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients
- Common diagnoses: Cath lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, thoracic program support, EP, structural heart, and other cardiac/vascular conditions
Required Certifications & Licenses
- RN license required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience with this patient population (cardiac/vascular intermediate care)
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Skills & Responsibilities
- Must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, Cardizem, and other BP management meds)
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
- Work with respiratory equipment troubleshooting (BiPAP, CPAP, nasal cannula)
- Charge nurse present on each shift (rarely takes patient assignment)
- Float to same or lower acuity units as needed
Staffing & Support
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7 in ICU
- Respiratory therapist available 24/7
- Nurse aides/patient care techs ratio: 1:18
- Remote telemetry techs support
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (12-hour shifts)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- No call or standby requirement
- Orientation: 1-2 shifts tailored to experience
- Manager assigns schedule (no self-scheduling or block scheduling)
Additional Information
- Must pass a 90% score on an open book skills exam during orientation (failure results in contract termination)
- Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance compliance (within 50 miles radius)
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
- Return to orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
