Position Summary
The OB Nursing Unit Director is responsible for developing and implementing clinical care strategies for the OB unit. This leadership role focuses on ensuring quality patient outcomes, staff and physician satisfaction, and efficient unit operations. The director will also manage non-clinical functions related to the unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies aligned with the facility’s strategic plan.
- Manage staffing effectiveness, ensuring appropriate number, competency, and skill mix of staff.
- Oversee personnel management including hiring, promotion, evaluation, counseling, discipline, training, and termination.
- Foster collegial relationships among staff, physicians, and leadership.
- Ensure quality and safety in patient care by promoting reporting and staff involvement in process improvement.
- Allocate financial, informational, physician, and human resources for improvement activities.
- Monitor operating revenue and expenses; establish cost control programs; develop new or revised programs/services.
- Lead professional nursing practice by setting standards of care and managing care delivery systems.
- Utilize nursing and managerial expertise to grow services and positively influence physician practice patterns.
- Plan for current and future equipment and technology needs based on research data.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.
- Coordinate patient care and oversee unit scheduling and staffing.
- Conduct performance improvement activities including risk management.
- Manage equipment and supply inventory.
- Collaborate with other departments and maintain positive physician relationships.
- Maintain regulatory standards and complete post-survey follow-up.
- Manage departmental budget and prepare for meetings.
