Position Overview
- Role: OR Tech (Operating Room Technician)
- Location: Northridge, California
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 full years of experience
- Certifications Required:
- Active BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
Work Environment
- Unit: Operating Room (OR)
- Number of Suites: 12 general OR suites, 1 cardiovascular OR (CVOR) suite, 1 hybrid room
- Average Cases per Day: 14
- EMR System: Cerner Surginet
- Charge Nurse Present: Yes
- OR Tech to Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts
- Floating: No floating for techs or RNs
- Floor Orientation: 2-3 shifts on unit
Call and Weekend Requirements
- Call Response Time: 30 minutes
- Weekend Call for CSTs:
- 7am-3pm & 3pm-11pm shifts: Call required every 4th weekend
- 11pm-7am shift: Variable weekend call requirement
- Weekday Call for CSTs: 4-8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled), call hours from end of shift until 7am next day
- Weekend Call for RNs:
- 7am-3pm shift: One weekend of call every 6 weeks
- 3pm-11pm shift: Every 4th weekend of call
- 11pm-7am shift: Variable weekend call
- Weekday Call for RNs: 4-8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled)
- Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter months
Clinical Details
- Scrub Color: Provided
- Surgeon On Call: Not in-house 24/7
- OB Anesthesia: In-house 24/7 as needed
- Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: Available 24/7
- IV Team: Not available
- Scrubbing Required for RNs: Not required but preferred; 3-5 years experience preferred; travel experience preferred
Common Case Types
- General OR: Orthopedics (total joints), gynecology, urology, trauma surgeries, ENT, plastics, vascular, neurology, robotics (Da Vinci)
- CVOR: Open heart, valve surgeries, thoracotomy, trauma (travelers not required to do CVOR unless specified)
- Required Experience: Trauma, ortho, and general surgery experience
Sterile Processing Tech Information (if applicable)
- Certification Required: IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification plus BLS
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in sterile processing
- Equipment Used: Steris, Sterad
- Procedures: High-level disinfection, VP Plasma, steam sterilization
- Shifts: 8-hour shifts (7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am) and some 12-hour shifts (11am-11:30pm)
- Call: Required every other week (EOW)
- Floating: No floating required
