Job Opportunity: Med Surg/Tele RN - 7N Ortho/Uro/Neuro

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Department: Med Surg RN 7N
• Beds: 29
• Nurse:Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6
• Common Patient Diagnoses:

  • Ortho Trauma (fractures, joint replacements)
  • Vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes)
  • Urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation)
  • Neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain)
  • OBGYN Oncology (TAH/OBS)
  • Acute Medical admissions

Requirements & Skills

• Specialty Experience: 2 years acute care nursing experience (higher value taken)
• Certifications Required: BLS (AHA)
• RN Responsibilities:

  • Titrate drips following prescribed nomogram (heparin, occasionally nitro, bivalirudin, cardizem, insulin)
  • No requirement to read telemetry strips (telemetry techs monitor 24/7)
• Floating: Required to float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified / not required

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Present on all shifts and takes assignment
• House Supervisor: Present on all shifts
• Nursing Assistants:

  • 0630-1900: 1 CNA per 8-10 patients
  • 1900-2300: 2 CNAs for the unit
  • 2300-0700: 1 CNA for the unit
  • Night shift RNs have additional responsibilities for vital signs and ADLs
• Respiratory Therapy/Equipment:

  • CPAP, BIPAP, High Flow Oxygen Therapy available
  • No ventilators
  • RT support present

Scheduling & Work Hours

• RN Shifts:

  • 0700-1930
  • 1100-2330
  • 2300-0700
• CNA Shifts:

  • 0630-1900
  • 1830-0700
• Scheduling: Block scheduling (no self-scheduling), dependent on staffing
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: None

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation:

  • 1 day computer training
  • 1-2 days precepted floor orientation
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional
• Additional Notes:

  • Clinicians must clock in/out at the facility
  • If previously worked at this facility, must have a 6-month gap before reapplying

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg/Tele RNs comfortable with a variety of patient types including ortho, vascular, urology, neuro, and oncology, who are flexible with floating and block scheduling.
