ICU RN Travel Job - Michigan (Iron Mountain)

Position Details

• Specialty: ICU RN
• Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: 5 bed ICU (plus 2 IMC beds in hallway)
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (0700-1900 & 1900-0700)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays
• Call/Standby: Potential opportunity for call/standby

Required Certifications & Licenses

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• Michigan RN License (must have license in hand)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience in an ICU setting
• Must be comfortable floating to Med-Surg/Telemetry units
• Preferred: Experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 facilities, or rural settings
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Patient Care & Unit Information

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 2:1 in ICU; 3:1 in IMC (acuity dependent)
• Common diagnoses: Respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, arrhythmias requiring pacing
• Strong skills in ventilator management required
• No pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery cases
• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, insulin)
• Charge nurse takes a full patient assignment
• No nurse aides on unit
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage until 6pm; ICU Tele Physicians coverage at night
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7 (not housed in ICU)
• RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, heated high flow; RN must assist and troubleshoot

Monitoring & Documentation

• Tele/Monitor Techs present 7am-7pm; RNs verify and sign off on strips (training provided)
• RNs must monitor both ICU and Med-Surg telemetry strips

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation includes:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work

Additional Notes

• Must be able to float to Med-Surg with ratios ranging from 1:3 to 1:6
• Dress code: Solid professional attire, no specific color required
• Limited onsite resources (no IV team; RT oversees entire hospital)
• Clinicians who have previously worked for this system must have a 6-month gap before reapplying
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
