Unit & Patient Information
- Unit Type: Medical Surgical Acute Care
- Number of Beds: 18 (mostly private rooms, 1 semi-private)
- Patient Types: General medical patients with various diagnoses
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 4-5 patients per nurse
- Night shift: 5-6 patients per nurse
- Patient Care Techs: 2 per shift, ratio approximately 9:1 when full
- Respiratory Therapy: Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- Telemetry: Patients requiring telemetry monitored remotely by telemetry department; unit uses Phillips equipment
- Support Staff: Unit clerk with 24-hour coverage; hospitalist/intensivist in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm & 7pm-7am)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation per policy
- Call/Standby: No call required
- Floating: Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
- Orientation: One 12-hour shift with unit preceptor for travel RNs
- Scrubs: Any color allowed, staff must provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
Requirements & Certifications
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or application in process
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA) required
- ACLS preferred for Charge RN position
- Experience: Minimum 1 year hospital experience preferred
- Skills:
- RNs required to titrate drips (Heparin)
- Expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available if unsuccessful
Additional Notes
- Charge Nurse coverage 24/7; may have patient assignments
- House supervisor available 24/7
- Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required
- Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
