Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to oncology patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care planning and evaluation.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards according to protocol.
- Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with standards.

- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Demonstrate professional communication and ethical decision-making.
- Encourage lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.

Qualifications
- Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 2 years RN experience, including medicine and chemotherapy experience
- Travel experience preferred for travel positions (1 year), not required for per diem
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation
