Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position
Location: California City, California
Employment Type: Health Services - Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide comprehensive nursing care including executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, medication administration, and assisting in patient examinations and treatments.
- Apply nursing and supervisory techniques in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents.
- Attend sick calls with physicians, prepare inmates/residents for examination, and manage medication dispensing and documentation.
- Assess new or ill/injured inmates/residents and refer to emergency or appropriate healthcare facilities as needed.
- Perform emergency procedures and coordinate with Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders.
- Supervise and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nurses and non-licensed medical staff.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records.
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
- Assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
- Conduct audits of pharmacy use and ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances.
- Observe and record inmate/resident behavior and inspect medical units for contraband.
- Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of medical records, reports, and logs.
- Review and respond to legal matters related to medical services, including attending court hearings if necessary.
- Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.
- Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by ensuring efficient and appropriate medical services.
- Prepare safety and accident reports and take action in serious incidents or emergencies.
- Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment.
- Perform searches for contraband and engage in security functions including working rotating shifts and verifying secure areas.
- Take action to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations.
- Perform rescue functions during accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid and evacuations.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing.
- Current RN licensure in the state of California required.
- One year of professional nursing experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
Additional Information
- Must utilize sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies.
- Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical, technical, legal, and regulatory documents.
