Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Observation Unit

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a designated group of patients, utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy. Responsibilities include:

Performing unit-specific duties within the scope of service
Implementing procedures and theories related to the practice area
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care
Completing initial patient assessments and developing plans of care based on patient and family needs
Implementing and modifying plans of care through continuous evaluation
Ensuring patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting hazards
Communicating effectively to resolve issues and support professional development
Identifying personal learning needs and fulfilling departmental competencies

Department-Specific Functions:

Assess IV sites every 4 hours
Start new IVs according to policy
Maintain documentation standards (quarterly chart audits)
Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually
Identify and respond appropriately to changes in patient status

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure: Illinois state RN license in good standing
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
Skills:
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing)
- Multicultural sensitivity
- Critical thinking and independent judgment
