Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Observation Unit

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a designated group of patients, utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing unit-specific duties within the scope of service
  • Implementing procedures and theories related to the practice area
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care
  • Completing initial patient assessments and developing plans of care based on patient and family needs
  • Implementing and modifying plans of care through continuous evaluation
  • Ensuring patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting hazards
  • Communicating effectively to resolve issues and support professional development
  • Identifying personal learning needs and fulfilling departmental competencies

Department-Specific Functions:

  • Assess IV sites every 4 hours
  • Start new IVs according to policy
  • Maintain documentation standards (quarterly chart audits)
  • Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually
  • Identify and respond appropriately to changes in patient status

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
  • Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Licensure: Illinois state RN license in good standing
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
  • Skills:
    • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
    • Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing)
    • Multicultural sensitivity
    • Critical thinking and independent judgment
