Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (RN-L&D)
Location: Bakersfield, California
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Shift: Night shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Floating: Will float to Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) after orientation
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Independently provides nursing care to acutely ill patients in Labor & Delivery under nurse leader supervision.
- Performs nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care.
- Creates a compassionate, patient- and family-centered environment supporting mind, body, and spirit healing.
- Collects and documents patient data; interprets assessment findings to identify physiological and psychosocial risks.
- Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Prioritizes nursing actions using education, experience, and critical thinking.
- Anticipates and manages rapidly changing patient conditions, activating emergency protocols as needed.
- Coordinates care activities with nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers.
- Adheres to evidence-based practices, therapeutic standards, infection control policies, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participates in professional governance, staff meetings, and ongoing education to maintain nursing competencies.
- Complies with RN scope of practice, ANA Code of Ethics, and California Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient populations served.
Required Qualifications
- Valid and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitor (FHM) certification.
- AWHONN Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) certification.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) card.
- Knowledge and experience with Cerner Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Must maintain all health requirements designated by the employer.
- May be required to obtain and maintain additional certificates of competency depending on assignment.
- Strong knowledge of advanced nursing theory, medical terminology, instruments, equipment, and medication effects.
Additional Information
- No block scheduling.
- Must be able to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Floating to Mother-Baby Unit after orientation is required.
