Sterile Processing Associate II

Location: New York, NY
Shift: 7 AM – 3 PM
Hours: 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week
Contract Length: 9 weeks

Job Summary

Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, preparation, packaging, and sterilization of general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment, and endoscopes. Duties include quality control testing and monitoring sterilization equipment, maintaining records, and preparing and dispatching surgical cases. Must assemble surgical trays with count sheets and may perform additional tasks such as answering phones, cleaning, stocking, transporting, and dispensing supplies and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, disinfection, and cleaning of instruments using hand washing, mechanical washing, or disinfection methods.
• Disassemble instruments and equipment thoroughly, ensuring removal of all bio-burden material.
• Inspect instruments for damage, sharpness, functionality, and integrity.
• Operate and troubleshoot cleaning equipment while maintaining OSHA safety standards.
• Prepare, assemble, inspect, package, and label surgical instrument sets for sterilization.
• Utilize resources to replace faulty or missing instruments.
• Understand and explain sterilization processes, including mechanical and chemical indicators.
• Accurately document and track instruments using an instrument tracking system.
• Follow infection control guidelines during handling, storage, and transport of sterile packages.
• Prepare and dispatch surgical cases, including identifying and picking medical/surgical supplies according to preference cards and labeling case carts correctly.
• Use surgical management software to manage operating room schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, with recent experience within the last year.
• CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent, demonstrating foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Experience with Horizon Surgical Manager program.
