Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Travel)

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every third weekend and every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required

Patient Population

• General Medical-Surgical patients including:

  • Gallbladder, colectomy, appendectomy
  • Hip/knee replacements, ORIFs
  • COVID-19, GI bleeds, CHF, COPD, sepsis, UTI, respiratory conditions

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Recent EPIC charting experience required (checkoff class required)
• Skillset includes:

  • PIV insertion
  • Chest tube/indwelling drain management
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Drip management (heparin, cardizem)
  • PEG/NG tube care
  • Ostomy care
  • Remote telemetry monitoring
  • Blood product administration
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and dysphagia screening
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to manage change well and work resiliently
• Social and team-oriented attitude

Unit Information

• 45-bed unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-7
• Charge nurse takes full assignment on nights and may take patients on days
• Experienced staff team
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current active compact RN license
• AHA BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Notes

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• Guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when unit may be closed
• Orientation includes bi-weekly sessions; GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
