Step Down Unit Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel assignment in Evansville, Indiana
• Primary location: Midtown
• 13-week contract
• 12-hour day shift, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation
• Post heart catheterization care (femoral/TR bands)
• Initiate and titrate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, nitro, Insulin, Heparin)
• Strong neuro assessments
• Sepsis care
• Chest tube management
• Experience with Epic

Unit Details

• Stepdown Cardiac Neuro
• 19-bed blended unit with 8 designated Stepdown beds and 11 MS/T beds
• Stepdown RNs take MS/T patients
• CN will take patients

Patient Population

• Post procedure cardiac patients, including cath/stents/interventions, pacers, ICD, and ablation
• STEMI/NSTEMI
• Carotid endarterectomy
• Sepsis
• Neuro patients, including CVAs, seizures, and possible TBI
• DKA

Skills

• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation
• Post heart cath care, including femoral and TR bands
• Initiate and titrate drips: Cardizem, Amio, cardene, nitro, Insulin, Heparin
• NIHSS and strong neuro assessments
• Sepsis care
• Chest tubes
• PIV insertion

Schedule and Float

• Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday
• First to float within skillset
• May float to Deaconess Newburgh campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
• Mid-shift float within the same campus
• Cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible

Additional Notes

• No local candidates within 40 miles
• Clinical interview
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting of students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs
• 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change
