Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Duluth, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour variable shifts (day and night)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit Overview

• 22-bed Intermediate Care (IMC) unit
• Patient ratios:

  • Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Patient population includes complex medical cases such as alcohol-related disorders (ETOH), cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), sepsis
• May care for medical patients awaiting transfer orders
• Occasional assignments as 1:1 sitter or assisting with general unit tasks
• Shared responsibility for call lights and alarms

Job Responsibilities

• Provide care for complex medical patients requiring wound care, wound vac management, antibiotic therapy, IV starts, neuro assessments, and restraints
• Float to inpatient units as needed
• May be placed on call during low census with a minimum 2-hour callback requirement
• Work every other weekend or less, with holiday assignments as needed

Required Qualifications

• Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 1 year of Intermediate Care nursing experience
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Ability to work independently, manage change, and complete tasks timely
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Additional Information

• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Preference for candidates with prior travel contract experience in colder climates (Midwest, Northeast, Mountain regions) for winter start dates
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply except during unit closures on holidays
• Contract includes eligibility for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours

Note: Prior travel experience is preferred but not explicitly required.
