Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU

Location: Greenville, North Carolina

Unit & Patient Population

• 16-bed palliative/general medicine/surgery unit
• Primary focus on symptom management and/or end-of-life care for patients with cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, pulmonary disease, or neurological disease
• Procedures on unit include epidurals and ventilator management
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Self-scheduling available

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification
• Prior travel experience required
• Proficient in IV start skills and PICC line management
• Experience with tracheotomy patient care
• Skilled in Dubhoff/NGT tube placement and management
• Administration and monitoring of various intravenous drips (e.g., cardiac, insulin, heparin) including cardiac monitoring
• Experience with patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps
• Experience with special procedures performed on the unit, including epidurals and ventilator management
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system

• Central line management
• Tracheotomy care
• Ostomy management
• Wound vac care
• Foley catheter management
• IV starts and peripheral lab draws
• Arterial blood draws
• Management of Dubhoff/NGT tubes
• Administration and monitoring of various intravenous drips (e.g., cardiac, insulin, heparin)
• Use of ancillary staff support

Medications & Equipment Commonly Used

• Top medications: insulin gtt, heparin gtt, morphine, dilaudid
• Equipment: wound vac, PCA pumps, epidurals, tracheostomy care

Additional Requirements

• Must pass Relias exams within two attempts after booking; failure on second attempt results in pre-start cancellation
