Scrub Technician Travel Job - Charleston, South Carolina
Job Summary
Provide safe patient care following professional and hospital standards. Support surgical procedures by assisting with scrubbing duties and maintaining asepsis, but not acting as a surgical assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist registered nurses in planning patient care and collaborate with health team members.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Maintain aseptic technique and perform scrubbing duties during surgeries.
- Communicate patient information to appropriate personnel.
- Account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing, following orientation guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper care of the surgical environment and equipment.
- Support teamwork and resolve problems within the department.
- May be required to take call and/or work weekends and holidays.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
- Frequent lifting/moving patients and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Frequent pushing or pulling (up to 50 lbs).
- Frequent use of hand/finger dexterity and reaching/twisting motions.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and irregular hours.
Requirements
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
- Specialty: Scrub Technician
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical operating room experience (highly desired)
- Certifications:
- Current certification in surgical technology through the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) - Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from American Heart Association - Required
- Education: Graduate of high school or GED equivalency
- Must meet one of the following to practice surgical technology in South Carolina:
- Completed an accredited surgical technologist program and hold NBSTSA certification (or within 3 months of graduation)
- Completed appropriate military training in surgical technology
- Employed as a surgical technologist in South Carolina prior to January 1, 2008
- Federal government service performing related duties
Additional Information
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Limited access to medication rooms; no handling of medications.
- Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Primary source verification of credentials is required.
