Job Summary

• Perform technical duties in all operating room specialty service areas following accepted standards and aseptic techniques.
• Maintain, assemble, handle, and sterilize specialty surgical instruments.
• Identify and correct contamination or breaks in aseptic technique.
• Perform surgical counts and manage discrepancies according to policy.
• Establish and maintain sterile fields independently, ensuring the surgical team maintains sterility.
• Label drugs, solutions, and surgical specimens accurately; monitor quantities used.
• Assist in planning, setup, and organization of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility during procedures.
• Support the surgeon by understanding patient anatomy and surgical abnormalities.
• Assist in patient positioning on the operating table.
• Review physician preference lists and verify supplies and instruments for each procedure.
• Modify scrubbing procedures as needed and communicate changes to the surgical team.
• Respond to surgical emergencies following hospital emergency management plans.
• Inventory, receive, and store supplies under surgical leadership direction.
• Mentor new hires and peers; participate in teaching, guiding, and performance evaluations.
• Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
• Support registered nurses during intraoperative phases.
• Participate in data collection for research projects under RN supervision.
• Operate and troubleshoot complex operating room equipment.
• Perform daily cleaning, stocking, and verification of emergency carts and trays.

Required Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of vascular standard OR cases and hybrid vascular cases, including EVAR and TCAR.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy manuals.
• Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions and problem-solve using collected data.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience as a Surgical Technician with Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.
• Familiarity with cardiac procedures such as Coronary Artery Bypass, Aortic and Mitral Valve surgeries, minimally invasive heart valve surgery, ECMO, Balloon Pump insertion, circulatory arrest, aortic dissection, lead placement/removal, TAVR, Impella placement.
• Knowledge of various wires and catheters used in interventional cases.

Required Qualifications

• Relevant Surgical Technician certification/license as applicable for the role.
