Job Opportunity: Clinical Laboratory Technologist
Location: Binghamton, New York
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Under limited supervision, perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests in assigned sections in a timely manner. Monitor lab processes, verify results, and may direct daily activities of the section in the absence of a supervisor with six or more years of experience. Follow relevant policies and procedures including state and federal guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform clinical analyses for routine, special, and automated tests; observe reactions and make qualitative or quantitative analyses.
- Recognize abnormal values and take appropriate action for alert/critical values.
- Perform, document, interpret, and troubleshoot quality control procedures.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and resolve technical problems.
- Verify and post results in Laboratory Information System (LIS) and file reports as needed.
- Obtain laboratory specimens (blood, urine, other body fluids) directly from patients as trained.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain professional competence and licensure.
- Assist in practical and clinical training of students and new employees.
- Evaluate and perform new testing methods and procedures.
- Act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the supervisor if experienced (6+ years).
- May serve as Charge Technologist with supervisory responsibilities when qualified.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Medical Technologist license in New York
- New York State Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Medical Technologist with at least 3 years of experience, including experience within the last year
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory technology or equivalent educational qualification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
