Role Overview

• RN role in Surgical Acute.
• 13-week contract.
• Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.

Location

• Peoria, Illinois.

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated.
• BLS.
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission.
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels.

Unit Details

• 63 beds total: 49 private and 9 observation beds.
• Common patient types include post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with ratios sometimes increasing to 6:1 on days and 7:1 on nights if needed.
• Charge nurses do not take an assignment; there are 2 charge RNs on each shift and a house supervisor 24/7.
• PCT support is available, with PCTs assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation.
• No vents on the unit; CPAP and high flow are used, RT manages nebs, and RNs manage inhalers and may place patients on CPAP.
• Some patients are on telemetry; bedside RNs do not read strips.
• Travelers are first to float and may float to units with the same level of experience.
• If an ICU RN floats to a general unit, they take a team of 3 patients.

Schedule and Expectations

• Every other weekend required.
• Rotate every other holiday.
• Travelers do not self-schedule.
• Block scheduling may be considered if approved at the time of contract.
• No call or standby requirement.

Orientation

• 2 shifts with a preceptor, plus one 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator.

• Local placements are accepted within a 50-mile radius.
