NICU Nurse

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced NICU nurse in Los Angeles, California.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week.

Unit Details

• NICU, Level III
• 26 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 and 1:1

Required Qualifications

• 3 years of NICU experience
• Active BLS
• NRP
• California RN license
• Experience with drips including dopamine, dobutamine, versed, and fentanyl
• Experience in a Level 3 NICU

Preferred Certifications

• PALS
• LA City Fire & Safety

Unit Population / Clinical Setting

• Premature infants
• Sepsis
• Surgical cases including gastroschesis and EVAS
• Ventilated patients are rare
• Nasal CPAP
• Rare oscillators
• High-risk deliveries attended in L&D

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling by seniority, with manager balancing
• Every other weekend
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Float Scope

• First to float to Nursery and Pediatrics
• Pediatrics is a sister unit with 12 beds and low-acuity patients, usually RSV and pneumonia

Orientation

• 3 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
• 6 hours in Nursery
• 6 hours on Pediatrics

Dress Code

• Navy
