Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Location: Hastings, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) generalist with strong phlebotomy skills for a night shift position. The role covers multiple lab areas except blood bank, with phlebotomy comprising up to 50% of the work on shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy including neonatal capillary and venous collections, blood cultures, venipunctures, and arterial blood gas collections (ABG preferred but not required).
• Work as a generalist covering hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology (limited scope), and point of care testing.
• Microbiology duties include culture setups and molecular platforms. Gram stain experience is a plus.
• Use laboratory information system (LIS): Orchard Software.
• Utilize equipment such as:

  • Hematology: Sysmex XN, ACL Top 350, Arkray Urinalysis
  • Chemistry: Roche Cobas 8000, Siemens Rapid Point
  • Microbiology: Bactec blood culture monitoring system
  • Molecular: Biofire TORCH, Cepheid Gene Xpert, Abbott ID Now
• Work collaboratively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Participate in training during the first week (40 hours on day shift) before moving to night shift schedule.

Schedule

• 10-hour night shifts
• 5 days per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday shifts as scheduled

Required Qualifications

• Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification via ASCP.
• At least 1 year of Medical Technologist experience within the last year.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

• Dress code: Solid colors preferred (red and black combination), lab coat allowed.
• Work radius: Up to 50 miles for travel assignments.
• No blood bank experience required.
• Orientation and training provided during the first week on day shift.
