Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg, 5th Floor

Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Care Details

• Unit: Medical-Surgical, 5th Floor
• Beds: 35 (can increase to 42; includes 9 semi-private and 17 private rooms)
• Patient Types: Wide variety including altered mental status, some cardiac patients (no active chest pain), renal patients, cancer, stroke overflow, traumatic brain injury, appendectomy, chest tubes, wounds (dressing changes done by wound nurse on days)
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely
• Ventilators: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow oxygen support
• IV Drips: Only IV gtts for Heparin or Protonix; no titrating or cardiac drips
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6 on both day and night shifts
• Floating: May float to any MedSurg unit except Emergency Department or Behavioral Health

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per Day: 12
• Hours per Week: 36
• Scheduling: Use Kronos for schedule requests; requests submitted at least 2 weeks in advance for 4-week blocks; block scheduling allowed if in contract
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Expected to work as needed based on unit needs
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the specific floor

Clinical & Support Resources

• EMR System: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
• Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: In-house 24/7 with Omnicell system
• IV Team: None available
• Nurse’s Read Strips: Not used, but basic arrhythmia knowledge and ability to recognize fatal rhythms required
• Hospitalist: In-house 24/7

Dress Code & Appearance

• Scrubs: Navy blue scrubs; white or navy undershirt; white or navy jacket
• Hair: Must be natural hair color (no unnatural colors like pink or blue)
• Tattoos: Excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current RN license for the state of West Virginia
• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS preferred

Additional Requirements & Notes

• COVID-19 Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (2 doses Moderna or Pfizer, or 1 dose J&J) unless approved medical or religious exemption is granted
• Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone from the facility for at least 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after completing at least 1 full year at this facility
• Background checks: Any background issues must be disclosed at time of submission
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one application
• Only 2 candidates can be submitted per opening; submissions may be held if the position is full
