Job Opportunity: Float Pool Nurse (ICU/MS/Tele/PCU)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit/Department
- Float Pool covering ICU, MedSurg Telemetry, and PCU across two campuses
- Includes inpatient holding in Emergency Department
- East Campus: ICU and stepdown patients, 10-bed double occupancy at NextCare
- West Campus: Stepdown unit with 14 double occupancy rooms, MedSurg Tele with 95 beds divided into 4 areas, MedSurg pods with 10 rooms each (double occupancy)
- Average census approximately 20 patients
Nurse:Patient Ratios
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year ICU experience required
- Must be able to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
- Comfortable managing a variety of drips is essential
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Geriatric patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4)
- Care of groin sites in stepdown unit
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse present on each unit; charge nurse does not take patient assignments
- Nurse aides utilized in all settings
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow in PCU
- Telemetry monitors on stepdown units; monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Telemetry
- Nurses must be able to interpret cardiac strips
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
- Schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time
- Night shift may allow block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday shifts included in permanent staff rotation
- Call/standby required on shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses must be available to be called in during their 12-hour shift
Orientation
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day
- 12-hour shift orientation at West MedTele and PCU
- East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate
Additional Information
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
- Notification of unit assignment is given 2 hours prior to shift start via text message
- Distance between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes
- Dress code: currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs aligned with Dignity guidelines starting October
