Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Salem, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

Unit: Blue Hills FSED, Emergency Department
Number of Beds: 8
Daily Staff: 6 (Day Shift: 2 RNs, 1 EMT, 2 mid-level RNs; Night Shift: 2 RNs)
Patient Ratio: 4:1
Equipment: GE
EMR System: Meditech
Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule

Job Responsibilities

Care for critically ill patients in the Emergency Department
Manage both high and low acuity ED patients
Perform medication administration and lab work
Work independently and collaboratively within a team

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention Training)
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications

ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification

Additional Information

Floating to other units is not required
Typical workweek: 36 hours

The nurses are very well mended and work well together towards the common goal of our patients

Cons

I come from the ICU so I don’t know if it was my lack of PCU experience but it feels like I have to BEG to the point of calling a rapid to have the residents and providers take initiative.
