LPN/LVN - Med Surg (Travel Position)

Location: Brevard, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Acute Care Unit with 30 beds
• Staff: 40+ total
• Day Shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 4-5 RNs/LPNs, 2-3 Nursing Assistants (NAs)
• Night Shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 4-5 RNs/LPNs, 2-3 NAs
• Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown/ICU: 2-4 patients per nurse
  • Med-Surg: 5-6 patients per nurse
• Support Staff: 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCT) on floor as appropriate
• Equipment used: IV pumps, Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs), Nova Stat glucometer, wound vac, Baxter feeding pump, lift equipment, Pyxis system (nurses only)
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner

Typical Procedures

• IV starts, Central Venous Lines (CVL), Arterial lines
• Foley catheter care
• EKG monitoring
• Wound care

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current LPN/LVN license for North Carolina
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• IV Therapy Certificate

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as an LPN/LVN in Med Surg or related specialty

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ICU or Stepdown units
• At least 1 year of Med/Surg experience preferred

Work Environment & Culture

• Fast-paced, dynamic acute care setting covering levels from Med/Surg to ICU
• Team-Based Care model with daily interdisciplinary meetings involving physicians, nurses, case management, pharmacists, and PT/OT to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• Weekend rotation includes 3 Mondays and Fridays per 6-week schedule
• Holidays staffed according to a staffing matrix

Dress Code

• Nurses: Navy blue scrubs
• Nursing Assistants: Galaxy/royal blue scrubs

Hours

• Approximately 36 hours per week

• Must be able to function effectively in a fast-changing environment
• No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position
