Job Summary
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Technologist I plays a vital role in supporting cardiac catheterization procedures by preparing the lab, operating essential equipment (including fluoro imaging and digital image acquisition), and ensuring accurate documentation of patient information and hemodynamic measurements. The technologist maintains aseptic technique and patient safety standards, collaborates with the medical team to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency, and serves as the radiation safety representative during X-ray usage.
Responsibilities
- Ensure major equipment is operational and document quality control.
- Participate in daily room checks and supply stocking.
- Access daily patient schedules and relevant patient information.
- Prepare equipment, supplies, and room configuration for procedures.
- Collaborate with procedure team and Cath Lab Lead/Coordinator for patient care and efficiency.
- Enter patient information accurately into cath lab computer and imaging systems.
- Document procedures, hemodynamic measurements, and ECG recognition.
- Secure patient positioning safely on procedure table.
- Train and maintain competencies in operating cath lab equipment such as:
- X-Ray, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), intracardiac echo (ICE)
- Contrast injector, hemodynamic system
- Intra-aortic balloon pump, rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, left ventricular assist device
- Support physicians during procedures, ensuring patient safety and proper table movement during imaging.
- Adhere strictly to aseptic technique and stop procedures if sterile technique is compromised.
- Follow organizational policies on patient safety, privacy, infection control, and communication.
- Share knowledge and foster teamwork within the department.
- Assist with patient transport as needed.
- Maintain proficiency in access site management.
- Act as radiation safety representative during X-ray use.
- Perform fluoro imaging and digital image acquisition as directed.
- Comply with attendance policies and productivity standards.
- Support Zero Harm and Customer Service initiatives.
- Follow departmental and organizational dress code.

- Participate in unit-based councils, process improvement projects, and collaborative care models.
Requirements
Education & Skills
- Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology school, associate’s degree in healthcare-related field, or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty (Cardiac Cath Lab Tech) required.
- 0-1 year acute care experience preferred.
Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA) required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (AHA) required for pediatric facilities.
- Preferred certifications (one or more):
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by CCI
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI
- Radiography (R) by ARRT
- Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) by ARRT
- Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV) by ARRT
- Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) by ARRT
- Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
- Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
- Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS
- State licensure required based on modality: New Mexico requires RRT or FUS by MIRTP NMED.
Work Schedule
- 4 days per week, 10 hours per day
- On-call every other weekend (Friday 4:00 PM to Monday 5:59 AM)
- Potential to float to Interventional Radiology (IR)
