Pathology Assistant Travel Job - Albany, New York

Position Summary

• Contribute to the efficiency of the Pathology Department and laboratory services by performing gross examination of surgical pathology specimens and supervising the autopsy service.
• Lead role in grossing areas: describe, examine, and prepare surgical specimens for histological processing.
• Assist and teach Residents and technical staff in grossing techniques and procedures.
• Manage day-to-day morgue operations, ensuring compliance with patient care needs, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Provide expertise and leadership in autopsy services, including autopsy prosection.
• Exercise independent judgment and administrative responsibilities such as project management, budget maintenance, supply/resource management, and staffing oversight (hiring, competency assessment, development, corrective actions).
• Assist in all aspects of anatomic pathology under pathologist supervision, including seminars and instruction for Residents, medical students, and staff.
• Qualified to handle complex surgical resections (e.g., pelvic exenterations, Whipple procedures) and autopsies (gross, PAD/FAD, clinical summary).
• Perform all work leading up to but not including diagnosis.
