Job Opportunity: Clinical Lab Scientist (Laboratory)

Location: Covington, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Alternating shifts: 7 days on, 7 days off (Wednesday night to Tuesday night)
• Work includes Core Lab and Blood Bank
• Must be comfortable with Trauma/Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) blood bank
• Weekend work required
• Scrubs color: Caribbean Blue

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Laboratory specialty (Clinical Laboratory experience required)
• Prior travel experience required (No first-time travelers accepted)

Preferred Experience

• Epic electronic medical record system experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred

Required Qualifications

• Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in Louisiana
• Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year
• Medical Lab Scientist, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist experience
• One completed travel assignment
• Certification from AMT, ASCP, AAB, or NCA
• Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, Maternal-Fetal, and Level 2 Trauma patients

Certifications & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) not required for Medical Lab Tech/Med Tech/Clinical Lab Scientists
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (check unit-specific requirements)
• Competency exams and annual updates required (e.g., Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam, Core Parts I-III)

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded depending on hire date)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
• Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (with accepted exemptions and declinations)
• Physical exam not required by facility but may be required by placement agency

Additional Notes

• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days
• Must be able to provide government-issued photo ID matching all documentation
• Must comply with facility appearance policy and other facility-specific requirements

This position is ideal for experienced Clinical Lab Scientists with prior travel contract experience looking for a 13-week assignment in a trauma-level II hospital setting.
