Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- 40-bed med-surg unit (5 West) caring for adult patients (18+)
- Patient conditions include sepsis, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiac diseases, COVID-19
- Care involves managing titratable drips, chest tubes, tracheostomies, complex wound care, post-bariatric procedures, high oxygen delivery systems, and end-of-life care
Care Model
- Team-based care delivery model including Lead Nurses, bedside RNs, Virtual Nurses, LPNs, and CNAs
- Virtual nurses handle administrative RN tasks remotely (e.g., admission/discharge paperwork, patient education)
- Emphasis on teamwork, communication, leadership, and working at the top of scope
Staffing Ratios
- Day shift ratio: 1 RN to 8 patients
- Night shift ratio: 1 RN to 9 patients
Schedule & Floating
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri night/Sat night)
- Floating required within scope to various units including neuro, trauma, observation, and others
- No local candidates accepted (must live more than 100 miles away)
Experience & Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with telemetry experience
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years telemetry experience required, specifically in a large, urban hospital
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required, but first-time travelers are generally not accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- EPIC charting experience required
- Drip management required on all floors
- BLS certification required
- Must work 2/3 major holidays during contract
- Pending license accepted but must be in hand before start or booking delayed by 6 weeks
Facility & Culture
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Scrubs mandatory: Steele gray with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking option
Certifications & Compliance
- BLS required
- ACLS, PALS, NRP as applicable per unit
- Background check within 30 days of start, including federal enhanced search
- State license verification and primary source verification required
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
- Physical exam and fit mask test required annually
- Immunizations required: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu (preferred but not mandatory), COVID vaccine preferred (exemptions accepted)
- Annual PPD or TB screening required
- Other competency exams and certifications as applicable (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Medication Test)
Additional Notes
- Team includes care techs, transport team, paramedics, and LPNs on some floors
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions allow up to two weeks off, with manager approval for additional time
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required
- Annual skills checklist required
