Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units & OR)
  • Other certifications as required by unit description (e.g., NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Licensure & Verification

  • Valid RN license (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification required within 30 days of start
  • Pending license not accepted
  • Locals accepted only if outside 75 miles radius

Job Requirements & Skills

  • Float required when census warrants
  • Every other weekend coverage
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 with mixed/shared acuity levels
  • General Emergency Department experience with combined Adult/Pediatrics
  • Skills in:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line care/management
    • Phlebotomy and IV starts
    • Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
    • Emergency medications and IV vasopressors
    • Procedural sedation administration
    • Stroke (CVA) care
    • Isolation precautions
  • Epic charting system preferred
  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white

Scheduling

  • Open to accommodating block schedules (attempted but not guaranteed)
  • Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks last 7 years)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (required within 3 months of start, run monthly)
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/diploma if education verification not on file
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates only
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Skills checklist required annually
  • Facility-specific documents and attestations to be completed

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (for certain care units)
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for specific units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for specific units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search (within 30 days of start)
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check (within 3 months of start, run monthly)

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of ER experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency department setting with mixed adult and pediatric patients. The role requires multiple certifications and compliance with extensive health and background checks. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
