Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU Oncology
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Unit: ICU - Oncology
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Average Daily Census: 21 patients
- Beds: 25
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within oncology floors, oncology service line, ICUs, and potentially other units
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (75-mile radius rule)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off per 13-week contract
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience (Bone Marrow Transplant experience NOT required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Certifications Required:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Preferred Certification: BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
- Additional Required Certifications/Competencies:
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent) required within 1 year of start and updated annually
- Unit-specific competency exams including oncology competency exam
- Other Preferred Skills: Teaching hospital experience
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Must pass Relias EKG exam; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Skills required include:
- Multi-system organ failure management
- IV insulin protocols
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting IVs and continuous IV sedation
- Procedural sedation administration
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- BiPAP and ventilator management including high flow nasal cannula
- Interpretation of ABGs (arterial blood gases)
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions including PPE use
- Phlebotomy (nurses draw own labs)
- Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac
- No chemotherapy administration required
- Use of Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR handoff communication
- Provider support includes interpretation services, IV teams, pharmacy, PT, social services, radiology, respiratory therapy, rapid response teams, patient transport, and unit secretary

Compliance & Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- State license primary source verification required (Missouri license verifiable on NURSYS)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive panel and remain valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules must be completed prior to start
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
- Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
Additional Notes
- No on-call shifts required
- Floating within oncology and ICU units expected
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Locals within 75 miles not accepted
- Pending licenses accepted
- Return to office restrictions limit time off to 7 days per 13-week contract
