Registered Nurse (ICU) Travel/Contract Position

Location: Plainview, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

• Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

• Floating: No floating between units
• Nurse will work independently and may be the only nurse staffed in a low acuity ICU
• Charge nurse over Med-Surg unit preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (1YR/1ST TIMERS OK)
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Other certifications may be required based on clinical track (e.g., NRP, CHEMO, EFM)

Licensure

• Valid RN license for Texas
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs

Work Environment & Expectations

• Nurse must be able to work independently and manage charge nurse responsibilities in a low acuity ICU setting
• Expected to maintain patient care with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Wear street clothes in the OR if applicable
• Free parking available in unrestricted spaces

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: Must be completed within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
• Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Immunizations & Health Documents:

  • TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
  • COVID vaccine or declination
• Fit Mask Test: Required for travel nurses, updated annually
• References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
• Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps

Competency & Training Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
• Specialty-specific competency exams (e.g., EFM for L&D RNs)
• WorkRamp Modules:

  • Pre-start and specialty-specific modules required
  • Annual regulatory modules required
  • Modules assigned based on region, specialty, and facility type

Additional Notes

• Nurse may be required to float to another Providence facility within a reasonable distance (Float Policy Acknowledgement required)
• Charge nurse experience preferred but not mandatory
• Must be able to work independently in a low acuity ICU setting where they may be the sole nurse on duty

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working independently in a low acuity ICU environment and are willing to work weekend shifts on a rotating schedule.
