Experience & Certification Requirements

• Years of Experience Required: Minimum 3+ years in Surgical Services
• First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
  • NBSTSA certification (MUSC does NOT accept NCCT)
• Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (not provided by the facility)

Scheduling & Hours

• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift
• Open to accommodating block schedules but not guaranteed based on surgical schedule
• Local radius for travel: 60 miles
• Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

• Hurricane Season: June through November; employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Avoid confirming new or extended assignments during peak months (August and September) if this is a concern.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
  • Must include SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
  • Background check must be run within 90 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals

• Licensure:

  • South Carolina RN license or appropriate state license with primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs
  • Licensure must be active, unencumbered, and no pending actions
  • Temporary "walk-through" licensure process available for SC RN license under certain conditions

• Health & Immunizations:

  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted
  • COVID vaccines highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella titers or vaccinations required as applicable
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, no instant tests accepted

• Additional Health Requirements for Sterile Processing Techs:

  • CMP and CBC with differential labs required within 48 hours after signing contract
  • Physical assessment form specific for sterile processors signed by licensed provider

• Respirator Clearance:

  • Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire

Certifications & Competencies

• Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NBSTSA certification for Surgical Techs
• Preferred/As Required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred but not required for CST
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for ER staff only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required, not required for ER RNs
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for ER staff
• Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable

Facility Specific Requirements

• Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
• First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform modules must be completed before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
• Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
• Various facility-specific forms and agreements must be completed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, contractor forms, job description acknowledgment)
• Proof of 2 clinical references required, with at least one from the unit of assignment
• Employment application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
• Radiation badge process requires ordering prior to start; candidates cannot begin work without it
