Job Opportunity: Neuro/PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lancaster, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Neuro/PCU Registered Nurse
- Shift Options:
- 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12s) or 4 shifts of 12 hours (4x12s)
- Night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (first-timers not accepted)
- Licensing: Must have a South Carolina RN license or Compact license prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Telemetry competency required
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Call Out Policy: After 2 call outs without documented medical reason, contract may be canceled
- Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis

- Total Staffed Beds: 97
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: No cost
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Not required for this facility
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical Exam: Initial physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (Q-Gold/T-Spot or 2-step PPD within 90 days)
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series or declination
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), or medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- COVID vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment History: Last 3 clinical employers verified (not required for this facility)
Certifications & Competencies
- Additional Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for ER only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) not required for ER RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and Med Surg, updated annually
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) required before start
Facility Specific Requirements
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style headshot required
- Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, system user agreement, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
- Parking Permit: Must be completed prior to start
- Safety & Compliance: Must review and sign safety codes and orientation acknowledgments
Additional Notes
- Travelers must be flexible with scheduling to meet unit needs
- All PTO must be approved and included in the contract before assignment acceptance
- Travelers may be sent home if orientation modules are not completed on time
- Radiation badge required only for OR RNs and CST (not applicable for this position)
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro/PCU RNs with at least 2 years of specialty experience, who hold the necessary licenses and certifications, and are comfortable with night shifts and floating within similar units. Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be considered.
