Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: La Plata, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (will consider up to 26 weeks)
Start Date: March 9, 2026
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Mids (11:00 AM - 11:30 PM)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Patient Population: All ages (infant to geriatric)
Unit: Emergency Department (fast-paced, complex diagnoses)
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Average Daily Census: 130
Number of Beds: 47

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse in Emergency Department
• Years of Experience Required: 2 years preferred; will consider 1 year with strong ER skills
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with strong ER experience are welcome

Licenses & Certifications Required

• Maryland RN State License
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, must be valid and include eCodes
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for ED nurses)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, EFM)

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

• Floating within the specialty required
• No pre-scheduled on-call requirements
• Must work holidays as scheduled
• Maintain competency exams and pass with required scores (e.g., medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, age-specific competencies)

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines, updated annually
• Fit test for N95 respirator within 1 year of start
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccination)
• Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30-45 days prior to start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (Oct-Apr)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location, but exemptions and documentation may be requested for tracking

Background & Documentation

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Education verification for highest level completed
• Employment history verification for previous 5 years (attestation accepted)
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, and computer system agreements prior to start

• Passport-style photo required for badge
• Time-sensitive documents must be completed at least 1 week prior to start
• Portfolio Epic training test-out available for eligible candidates
• Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced ED environment with a diverse patient population and complex cases
