Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Potsdam, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department (ER) at a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. This is a travel/contract position with every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule).

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
• Patient Ratio Experience: 1:5

Required Skills & Competencies

• General Emergency Department care (combined Adult/Pediatrics)
• Non-Trauma Emergency Department experience
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Blood product administration
• Central line care/management
• Phlebotomy and IV skills (starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors)
• Care for patients with:

  • CVA (stroke)
  • Neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Identifying and reporting abuse
  • Infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections
  • Mental/behavioral health conditions
  • Seizures
  • Ventilated patients
  • Gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have at time of start, cannot start with pending

Preferred Certifications

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
• TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)

Unit Systems

• EPIC (Electronic Health Record)
• Pyxis (Medication Dispensing System)
• SBAR (Communication Framework)

Orientation

• 24 hours

Additional Requirements & Compliance

• Must be located more than 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification required for nursing degree
• State license verification (New York) within 30 days of start
• Harassment prevention training (annual)
• Medication and dysrhythmia competency exams as required
• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
• Review of facility-specific policies on patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience, and compliance
• Completion of required health documents and lab work within 5 days of contract signing, including:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (updated annually)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
• References: 2 professional references required
• Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
• 7-year work history verification
