Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract
Location: Potsdam, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department (ER) at a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. This is a travel/contract position with every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule).
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Patient Ratio Experience: 1:5
Required Skills & Competencies
- General Emergency Department care (combined Adult/Pediatrics)
- Non-Trauma Emergency Department experience
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Blood product administration
- Central line care/management
- Phlebotomy and IV skills (starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors)
- Care for patients with:
- CVA (stroke)
- Neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedic trauma
- Abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury
- Hyperglycemia
- Identifying and reporting abuse
- Infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections
- Mental/behavioral health conditions
- Seizures
- Ventilated patients
- Gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have at time of start, cannot start with pending
Preferred Certifications
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
Unit Systems
- EPIC (Electronic Health Record)
- Pyxis (Medication Dispensing System)
- SBAR (Communication Framework)
Orientation
- 24 hours
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Must be located more than 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification required for nursing degree
- State license verification (New York) within 30 days of start
- Harassment prevention training (annual)
- Medication and dysrhythmia competency exams as required
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Review of facility-specific policies on patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience, and compliance
- Completion of required health documents and lab work within 5 days of contract signing, including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (updated annually)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug testing within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
- References: 2 professional references required
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- 7-year work history verification
