Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Outpatient Oncology Care Manager
Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: One 2x8-hour shift every other week and three 8-hour shifts every other week
- Role: Patient Care Manager supporting Neuro Oncology patients in a multidisciplinary team
- Responsibilities:
- Develop and customize patient roadmaps
- Assess patients and implement physician orders, treatment plans, and medical procedures
- Record keeping and monitoring patient care processes and outcomes
- Coordinate activities with other services and disciplines
- Coordinate follow-up appointments, labs, scans, referrals, authorizations, DME ordering/coordination, care coordination, transition planning, and needs assessment
- Patient Diagnoses: Oncology and Pediatrics (Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents)
- No chemotherapy administration, but knowledge of chemotherapy and its interactions required
- Float required to cover for colleagues
- No call requirement
- Average daily census: 20-22 patients
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Case Manager experience
- Experience with Oncology and Pediatrics required
- Experience with Neuro Oncology patients required
- Prior travel experience: Not a first-time traveler (prior travel experience required)
Certifications Required
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) - Required
- CPHON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse) - Preferred
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - May be required depending on unit
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - May be required depending on unit
- Other certifications may be required based on unit and specialty
Patient Population
- Neonates
- Infants
- Pediatrics
- Adolescents
Special Skills and Equipment
- Must be skilled in care coordination and transition planning
- Experience with roadmaps customized per patient
- Ability to order and follow up on labs, appointments, scans, referrals, authorizations, and durable medical equipment (DME)
- Knowledge of chemotherapy and its interactions (no administration)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including criminal background, education verification, and various federal/state checks required
- Drug testing with a negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (TD or Dtap not acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 60 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Other immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (per facility policy)
- Mask fit testing required prior to start for certain units
- Completion of orientation modules and facility-specific documents prior to starting assignment
- References: 2 supervisor references required (may be pending at start)
- Verification of 2 previous employers with up to 7 years of relevant experience required
Orientation and Onboarding
- Orientation includes virtual and in-person components
- Completion of pre-start modules (6-8 hours) required before starting on the floor
- Badge pickup and security screening on first shift
- Facility-specific policies including dress code and fingernail hygiene must be followed
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric oncology nurses with case management skills and prior travel experience looking to work in a specialized outpatient neuro-oncology setting.
