Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a contract length of approximately 13 weeks. First-time travelers are accepted. The role involves floating to various units including adolescents, pediatrics, PHOC, and NICU.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience required.
- Prior travel experience not required.
Work Schedule
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required.
- Ratios: 1:1-2; 1:3 for intermediate care.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
- Chemotherapy certification preferred (if applicable)
Note: Certifications must be current and may require renewal confirmation if expiring within a month of start.
Required Skills and Competencies
- EPIC electronic health record system
- CVP, CVVH, hemodynamic monitoring
- Interpret/manage EKG
- Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWs)
- Insulin administration and pumps
- Placement and management of NG tubes
- IV access including ports, arterial lines, central lines, PICCs
- Procedural sedation
- IV vasopressors
- EVD, VP shunt, ICP monitoring
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Endotracheal tubes (ETT), ventilators, tracheostomies
- Management of renal failure, CRRT, peritoneal dialysis
- Wound care and trauma management
- ECMO preferred
Floating Assignments
- May float to adolescents, pediatrics, PHOC, NICU units.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check required within 30 days of start.
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start.
- Employment history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement).
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Two professional references required, including at least one managerial reference.
- Various state and federal exclusion screenings required.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Fit testing for respirators (N-95) and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start.
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire required.
- Color blindness exam required if job tasks involve color discrimination.
- Drug testing panel includes multiple substances and must be completed within 30 days of start.
Additional Training and Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 72 hours of signing.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for critical care and telemetry units.
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation process in place.
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person portions).
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of floating policy acknowledgment for every new assignment.
- Annual education PowerPoint review and sign-off.
- Vendor medical clearance form required for candidates with history of positive TB.
- Baxter orientation videos required for RNs.
- Stroke and trauma CEUs required for applicable units.
