Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Stepdown Neuro (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Specialty & Unit Details

  • Specialty: Mixed Acuity (Medical Surgical/Telemetry & Stepdown)
  • Unit: 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Patient Population: Strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, long-term EEG monitoring
  • Care Ratios:
    • Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights
    • Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
  • Patient Load: Up to 5 Med Surg patients per RN
  • Floats: May float within scope to other units including Bellevue campus

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty, specifically in a large, urban hospital
  • Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
  • Drips: Required on all floors
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Locals: Not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
  • License: Pending licenses accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking will be delayed by six weeks

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Shift Options: 36 or 48-hour shifts available
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • RTO (Request Time Off): Up to 2 weeks allowed, must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
  • Facility: 100% nicotine-free

Certifications & Compliance

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
    • NIH Stroke Certification – as applicable
  • Licensure Verification: State license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start
  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background check including federal enhanced search, education verification, and state-specific registry checks
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
    • Fit mask test annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+)
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years
    • Annual TB testing or chest x-ray if history positive
    • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B vaccination or titers required
    • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
  • Other: Annual skills checklist required

Additional Information

  • Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
  • Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
  • Team Composition: Includes CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
  • References: Two work references from past 2 years required
