Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care
- Observation Unit: Care for patients needing evaluation/treatment between 8-48 hours (e.g., chest pain, asthma, abdominal pain, kidney stones, minor infections)
- Treatments include IV antibiotics, fluids, insulin drips, nitro for blood pressure, TP and lipids
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights
- Drips required on all floors
- Floating within scope to various units including Bellevue campus (units such as 4CS, 5 West, 6 Neuro, Trauma, etc.)
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics; LPNs on some floors
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of prior RN experience in a large, urban hospital (must have 2 years at a Level I Academic Medical Center if first-time traveler)
- Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless 2 years at Level I Academic Medical Center
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- Charting: EPIC experience required
- Licensing: Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking delayed 6 weeks
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hours
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2/3 major holidays
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
Compliance & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start (includes nationwide and federal enhanced searches)
- SAM and OIG checks required every 30 days
- Education verification required
- State-specific registry checks required
- Primary source license verification required prior to start
- Annual physical exam and fit mask test required
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray if history positive
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption accepted)
- Annual skills checklist required
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years
Additional Notes
- Up to two weeks of Return to Origin (RTO) permitted, must be submitted with application
- Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with acute observation care, drips, and floating across multiple units in a large academic medical center setting.
