Neuro ICU

Overview

• Travel/Contract role in Charlotte, North Carolina
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 16 weeks
• Locals accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of Neuro ICU experience
• Neuro ICU experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Ventilator management
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of dysrhythmias
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• Continuous IV sedation administration
• CVA/Acute stroke management
• External ventricular drain (EVD) management
• ICP monitoring
• Post-neurosurgery patient management

Preferred Qualifications

• Arterial line management

Unit Details

• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Average daily census: 11–12
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1, may flex to 3:1 in high census
• Float requirement: yes
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Call requirement: none
• Orientation: 24 hours
• Scrubs: navy blue and white

Clinical Focus

• Stroke population is a major part of the unit
• Common diagnoses include ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
• Skills and experience listed include vents, IV start, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVDs, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery care, ventilated patient care, isolation precautions/PPE, and lumbar drain experience
• Equipment includes EVD, lumbar drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
