Role Overview

• Travel/Contract Registered Nurse position in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
• 12-hour nights, 18:45–07:15.
• 36 hours per week can be offered.
• Unit accepts 13–26 week assignments.
• Mixed acuity unit with PCU and MS/Tele patients.
• 48-bed unit.
• Required to float to like units.
• Every other weekend required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
• 2 years of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience.
• IV start, vents, telemetry and cpap/bipap, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias.
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications

• NIHSS.

Unit Details

• Target ratio is 1:4–5; in extreme situations, 1:6.
• Higher-acuity med-surg environment with chronic trach/vent patients.
• No nurse has more than one vent patient at a time.
• Common patient population includes COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, chest tubes, CPAP, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring.
• Resources on the unit include an Admission/Discharge nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team.
• Special equipment includes chest tubes, dopamine, Cardizem, Heparin, vents, trachs, bipaps, and cpaps.
• Unit orientation is 24 hours.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated when unit needs are met.
• Scrubs are not provided; white or navy blue are required.
