Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Job Details

  • Schedule options: 36/36 or 36/48 hours
  • Rotating weekends and holidays required
  • No on-call duties
  • Floating required (floated to Medical-Surgical units on 1:7 nurse-to-patient ratios)
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts available and may be flexed based on hospital census
  • Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Accepts first-time travelers
  • Certifications: AHA BLS, NIH Stroke Certification, AHA ACLS (Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
  • Traveler’s permanent residence must be at least 100 miles from the hospital’s service area
  • General orientation begins on Sundays (online compliance-based learning)
  • 16 hours of non-billable orientation required

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (verify if required/preferred)
    • State License Primary Source Verification
    • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
  • Preferred/Conditional Certifications:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – check unit requirements
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for ER, can be pending at start
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – highly preferred for ER
    • National Certification/Verification for applicable tech roles
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
    • General Competency Exam (required)

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (must meet specific standards; completed within 48 hours of contract signing)
  • Staff info form (time sensitive; completed within 24 hours of contract signing)
  • Department-specific uniform guidelines and dress code must be reviewed
  • Contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement must be completed
  • Smoking and tobacco use policy review required
  • Influenza policy review and flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms (time sensitive)
  • CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use must be reviewed

Health Documents & Immunizations

  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Respiratory fit mask testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR titers or vaccine documentation)
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer or vaccine documentation)
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
