Job Description
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in L&D; first-timers accepted
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Shift Options: 36 or 48 hour contracts available
- Weekend Requirements: No specific weekend requirements; scheduling flexibility limited
- On-Call Requirement: Yes, 4x12s (12 hours over 4 weeks) or 3x12s (24 hours over 4 weeks)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to antepartum and postpartum units
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: No locals within 75 miles accepted
- Pending License: New Mexico license can pend at time of submission and is accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48), facility allowed to adjust
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (not RQI)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC (not RQI)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, NICU, and Mother/Baby units (not RQI)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, CPI, MOAB for Behavioral Health if applicable)
Special Requirements & Skills
- Must have experience in a large L&D unit/facility
- Circulate and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) skills required
- Experience with 3s/4s in postpartum, baby nurse duties, and meconium deliveries
- Experience with special procedures including:
- Cerclage, version, Cesarean Section (C/S), postpartum tubal ligation (PPTL)
- External and internal fetal monitoring, artificial rupture of membranes (AROM)
- Medically assisted deliveries, C-hyst, neonatal palliative care
- Nitrous oxide use, massive transfusion protocol, malignant hyperthermia management
Health & Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year (specific mask types accepted)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative result required)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- Immunizations required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination, declination, or titer)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation)
- Two professional references within three years of hire
- Work history verification for at least 3 years
Additional Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- Orientation includes Cerner training attestation and possible testing
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for certain units including L&D; must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section
- Fingerprinting cost is candidate responsibility unless exception granted
- Must have a valid non-local driver’s license (identification cards not accepted)
- No public transportation nearby; candidates must have reliable transportation arrangements
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, large L&D unit with a variety of specialized procedures and a supportive teaching hospital environment. Candidates should be prepared for on-call duties and flexible scheduling within the scope of the facility’s needs.
