Registered Nurse - Respiratory Unit (Pediatrics)

Location: Madera, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position is on the Respiratory unit caring for pediatric patients, including those on ventilators.

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Healthcare Provider required for all clinical positions.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, PCCU, ER, Pediatric ER, and Pediatrics (not required for NICU).
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Advanced NRP required for NICU (AAP/AHA approved).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred but not required for Pediatric ER; required for ER & PACU RNs.
  • Other Certifications:
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) as required.
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred but not required for ER & Pediatric ER.
    • CNOR required for RNFA unit (not applicable here).
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification required.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for RN, LPN/LVN, AP.

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start (all counties lived/worked, sex offender registry, education verification).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required (may start with pending verification).
  • Two professional references required (Charge RN or above preferred).

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (required for Aya placements only).
  • Fit mask test required within 6 months of start; acceptable masks include 3M 1860 and Ameritech Progear (size must be indicated). Facility offers onsite fit testing if needed.
  • Tdap vaccine required within years of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required (various acceptable testing options). Annual TB questionnaire required for Aya placements.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-April 1). No declinations allowed.
  • COVID vaccination preferred but not required as of May 2024.
  • Respirator clearance required (RespSafety or facility-specific form), updated annually for Aya direct placements.

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Candidate must review and sign orientation guide, confidentiality agreement, and other facility policies including dress and grooming standards, harassment-free workplace, IT acceptable use, and parking information.
  • Must complete medication test/pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%+). Facility will administer their own pharmacology exam on the first day.
  • Candidate must complete facility-specific forms including non-employee personal information sheet and orientation post-test prior to start.
  • Medical and religious influenza exemption request forms available for 2024-2025 season if applicable.

  • This role involves working with pediatric patients who may require ventilator support.
  • Compliance with all credentialing, health, and safety documentation is mandatory prior to or at start.
  • Facility may allow some documents to be pending at start but must be completed promptly.
