Location: Frankfort, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 2 shifts per week, 8 hours each (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) on Tuesday & Wednesday

  • Formalin
  • Frozen Section/tissues
  • Incisional biopsies
  • Methods of freezing
  • Reagents types/components
  • Shave biopsies
  • Cutting tissue sections using microtome and cryostat
  • Cutting blocks
  • Histology cassettes
  • Microtomy of frozen sections
  • Precision microtomy
  • Basic dye stains
  • Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain
  • Preparing slides for staining and coverslipping

• Preferred Experience:

  • Commercial or reference laboratories
  • Hospital clinical laboratory
  • Aqueous specimens

• Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year

• First Time Travelers: Accepted

• Locals: Accepted

Required Certifications & Licenses

• License: Must have valid Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before starting (no pending licenses accepted)
• National Certification: ASCP-HT (American Society for Clinical Pathology - Histotechnician)
• BLS: Basic Life Support certification required (AHA or equivalent)

Special Requirements

• Experience with cryostat, stainer, microscope, and electronic medical records (EMR)
• Knowledge of skin cancer and MOHs procedures
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required)
• Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
• Drug screening (10-panel negative drug test within 12 months)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start date
• Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
• TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start date
• Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent)

Additional Requirements

• Completion of unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam (not required for techs)
• Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
• Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years
• Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days in the last 7 years
• Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start

Requirements/Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Histology Technologist
• Recent Histology Technologist experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience with Mohs procedures

• Pending state licenses are not accepted; all licenses and certifications must be current and in hand before starting.
• Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
• Locals are accepted for this travel/contract role.
