Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Description

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:5; may flex to 1:6 occasionally, with travelers expected to take extra patients.
• Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination).
• Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed.
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed.
• Patient Diagnoses: Medical diagnoses related to pulmonary, wounds, urology, general cardiac, neurological, and renal conditions.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols.
• Central line care and management experience.
• Chest tube management experience (Emerson/Pleur-evac).
• Non-invasive airway management experience.

Schedule & Work Conditions

• No on-call requirement.
• No block scheduling accommodation.
• Local candidates accepted.
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days.
• Guaranteed minimum hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks.
• Charting system: Epic.
• Scrub color: Navy.

Compliance & Background Requirements

• Government-issued ID required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including statewide and nationwide searches.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required.
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.

Additional Required Documents & Training

• Employment application.
• Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start.
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start.
• Color blindness test within 12 months of start.
• Unit-specific competency exam, updated annually.
• Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education.
• Orientation modules completed through online learning platform prior to start.
• Professional references: Two required, preferably supervisors within the last year.

Notes

• Floating between units and departments is expected as part of the role.
• Candidates must be able to work required weekend shifts and holiday shifts as assigned.
• This position is at a tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation and recognized Magnet status.
