Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse
Location: Spokane Valley, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Hospice Registered Nurse to provide skilled hospice care in Spokane Valley and surrounding areas. This is a day shift position with 8-hour shifts. The nurse will typically have a 1:1 patient ratio but may visit up to 6 patients per day.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of skilled hospice nursing experience required
- Home Care Home Base (HCHB) experience required
- First-time travelers not accepted
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington (pending licenses accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Other Requirements
- Must have own transportation; occasional travel radius up to 50+ miles
- Weekend shifts not required
- No on-call or floating between units required
- Locals within 50-75 miles radius considered
Work Environment
- Facility type: Home Health / Hospice
- Attire: Any basic color scrubs
- Charting system: EPIC / HCHB (laptop provided)
- Parking: Free
- Mileage reimbursement: IRS standard
Compliance & Documentation Highlights
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health requirements including:
- TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel candidates
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
Training & Competency
- Completion of required WorkRamp modules annually, including:
- Regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for Hospice/Home Health
- System and regional specialty modules as applicable
- Competency exams as applicable by profession
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Epic training modules required within a week of orientation
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours with possibility of up to one shift call-off every two weeks
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Float policy acknowledgement may be required (floating within reasonable distance)
- Must comply with state-specific background and registry checks for Washington
This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs with home care experience who are comfortable with travel assignments and providing compassionate end-of-life care in a home health setting.
